I recently purchased your 16x2 serial display (the '632' model?). I'm curious to know, after seeing what looks like kanji characters coming up on the display when I accidentally sent garbage to it, if it's possible to upload a custom character set to the display to replace the normal a-z characters, not just the 'custom' characters that are documented in the .PDF file provided.

Is this possible, and is there any documentation on how it can be done?

Thanks very much,

Note: The table shown in this post is for the 1.x displays. The CGROM for the 2.x series is here:

http://www.crystalfontz.com/products/634/cgrom.html

That page also includes a link to a high-resolution PDF version that will print nicely:

What you are seeing is the characters in the upper 128 CGROM (Character Generator ROM) locations. These can be accessed, but cannot be changed. Here is the full table of the characters that are available in the 632 and 634:

Here is a printing resolution PDF of the CGROM Table (http://www.crystalfontz.com/backlight/632_634_CGROM.pdf).

(Do a right-click, Save Target As to save the PDF to your local disk.)
