White on Blue 16x2 Character LCD I2C

Part Number: CFA533-TMI-KC

I2C LCD With Keypad – White On Blue

Easy to use with Arduino.

The CFA533-***-KC series is a 16x2 I2C LCD with keypad. The I2C interface allows you to use just two lines (SDA & SCL) to have bi-directional communication with the I2C LCD. Other devices can also share those two I2C control lines with the LCD. Only 4 wires are needed to connect this I2C LCD: power, ground, SDA (I2C Serial DAta) and SCL (I2C Serial CLock).

The CFA533 can run on 3.3v to 5.0v directly, with no changes needed, so you do not need to do any level translation between your embedded processor and the I2C LCD. Simply power the CFA533 from the same supply as your processor and the I2C signal levels will match up.

Using only one address on your I2C bus, you can add all the elements that you need for your front panel. The CFA533 I2C LCD can also read up to 32 DS18B20 digital temperature sensors, giving you an easy way to integrate temperature sensing over the I2C bus. No additional firmware or pins are needed on the host system.

The CFA533-TMI display style has sharp white characters against a deep blue background. The keypad is backlit in a complementary blue. This I2C LCD is a backlit negative STN. The CFA533-TMI I2C LCD is viewable in any lighting condition from darkness to normal, bright office light. The CFA533-TMI negative STN is not recommended for use in full sunlight conditions.

    Part Change Notice #10731: CFA533 KC series Firmware revision 1.1 to 1.2
    Products Affected: CFA533-YYH-KC, CFA533-TMI-KC, CFA533-TFH-KC
    Date Issued: October 5, 2016
    Summary: CFA533 KC series Firmware revision 1.1 to 1.2
    Last revision: 1.1
    Description: The CFA533 KC series of advanced display modules will be changing from the current firmware v1.1 to v1.2. Design changes were made for backwards compatibility.
    Reason: As part of our continuous improvement, firmware has been updated for use with updated hardware for the CFA533 series of advanced display modules.
    Impact: Change:
    Command 1 (0x01): Get Hardware & Firmware Version
    This command will now report the following string = "CFA533:h1.4,c1v2"

    New Command:
    23 (0x17): Enable Key Ready Flag
    Due to the nature of the I2C protocol, we have included an out-of-band method of checking for key presses and releases. This command allows GPIO[0] (J8's Pin 7) to act as a key ready flag. If enabled, it sets GPIO[0] high until read by the host using 24 (0x18): Read Keypad, Polled Mode (Pg. 46).

    type: 0x17 = 2310 data_length: 1
    data[0] = 0 => GPIO 0 is normal
    data[0] = 1 => GPIO 0 driven high if a key is ready driven low if no keys are ready

    The return packet will be:
    type: = 23
    data_length: = 0
    Recommendation: CFA533 firmware version 1.2 is considered a fit and form replacement. Testing of new firmware is recommended when the new hardware version 1.4 is available.
    Availability: CFA533 hardware v1.4 should begin shipping Q4 2016.
    Engineering samples for testing / validation will be available during this same time frame.

    Date Issued: July 8, 2016
    Summary: CFA533 series Hardware revision 1.1 to 1.4
    Last revision: 1.1
    Description: The CFA533 series of advanced display modules will be changing from the current hardware version 1.1 to version 1.4. Design changes were made for backwards compatibility. Hardware version 1.4 requires firmware version 1.2 or newer.
    Reason: As part of our continuous improvement, design changes have been made to the hardware of the CFA533 series of advanced display modules for improved manufacturability, improved quality, and a lower current profile.
    Impact: Factory default configuration has no functional changes. Standard and custom configurations are not affected by the new hardware layout. CFA533 hardware version 1.4 should replace the previous version of the CFA533 with no physical changes and is considered a fit and form replacement.

    Six 0 ohm resistors have been added as factory default for closing the following jumpers:
    JPGPIO1 -> RJPGPIO1
    JPUSBPWR -> RJPUSBPWR
    JP2 -> RJP2

    Part Change Notice #10673: CFA533 Firmware c1.1
    Products Affected: CFA533-YYH-KC, CFA533-TMI-KC, CFA533-TFH-KC
    Date Issued: September 14, 2015
    Summary: CFA533 Firmware c1.1
    Last revision: c1.0
    Description: As part of our continuous improvement, we are releasing a new version of the CFA533 KC, or I2C firmware. This is a point release from c1.0 to c1.0.
    Reason: Bug: Key press / release packets would be sent from display unless specifically turned off. This behavior is not consistent with a slave device on an I2C bus. The extra packets could cause output buffer overflow issues. Key press / release reporting is now turned off as core functionality of the CFA533 I2C firmware. Key press / release conditions are stored in the output buffer and are sent to host when polled.

    Updates: Bring firmware into line with functionality of base CFA533 firmware.
    Impact: Firmware update has been designed for low to no impact.

    Customers with Defined Part (DP) numbers will continue to receive display modules with the version of firmware currently approved.
    Availability: New firmware will begin shipping on 2015-10-01.
    Price Change: There is no price change associated with this PCN.

    Part Change Notice #10351: CFA533 family hardware revision v1.1
    Products Affected: CFA533-YYH-KS, CFA533-YYH-KU, CFA533-TMI-KS, CFA533-TMI-KU, CFA533-YYH-KL, CFA533-TMI-KL, CFA533-YYH-KC, CFA533-TMI-KC, CFA533-YYH-KI, CFA533-TFH-KU, CFA533-TFH-KS, CFA533-TFH-KL, CFA533-TFH-KC
    Date Issued: August 2, 2011
    Summary: CFA533 family hardware revision v1.1
    Last revision: v1.0
    Description: The CFA533 v1.1 hardware changes are as follows:

    1. New inductor package for backlight control circuit. This is being done to improve the manufacturabilty of the CFA533.

    2. Addition of JPGPIO1. This jumper will be closed by default and bypasses a 5KΩ pull-up resistor that is in line with GPIO[1] to the micro-controller.

    3. Improved Yellow-green backlight for the YYH variants. The backlight now has a total of 10 yellow-green LEDs instead of 6. This improves the visual quality and appearance of the LCD backlight. Typical weight will increase to 43g, from 41g for the CFA533 YYH variants.

    Reason: As part of our continuous improvement process, the CFA533 family is being revised to hardware v1.1. This was done based on customer feedback to improve the functionality and appearance of the CFA533 family.
    Impact: Hardware v1.1 should be a drop in replacement for most applications. No form or fit changes have been implemented.

    The exception may be with the YYH variants. Due to the increased number of yellow-green LEDs in the LCD backlight, the current profile of these variants has increased.
    Recommendation: Participate in discounted pricing for first run CFA533 v1.1 hardware based modules through September 30, 2011.
    Availability:
