Objects can have an electrical charge built up on them &mdash; this is called an electrostatic charge. Remember scuffing your feet on the carpet then zapping your friend? The scuffing builds up an electrostatic charge on your body. The zap is the electrostatic discharge (ESD).<\/p>\n<p>The integrated circuits used in electronics (including our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crystalfontz.com\/blog\/glossary\/lcd\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. An LCD is composed of two pieces of glass with a thin layer of liquid crystals between the glass layers. When a voltage is applied to the glass, the orientation of the crystals can be changed. This change in the crystal's orientation (called polarization) will make either a dark&hellip;\" class=\"encyclopedia\">LCD<\/a> modules) can be damaged by ESD. Once the modules are installed in a system, the case of the system prevents the integrated circuits on the module from receiving most ESD events.<\/p>\n<p>Before the modules are installed is when they are at the highest risk to ESD damage.
