FAQ: LCDs for Servers

Question from our tech forum:

I’m looking to put LCDs on my new servers, which are pretty significantly complex even before you get into the software on them.

This customer had a complex set of requirements for LCDs to be used in a server set up.

Summary:

  1. Need to drive four LEDs, and need 14 pinouts.
  2. The host data needs to get fed from USB as it sits, and gets pretty fancy.

That is a potentially tall order, but we have a solution!

Our Answer:

Everything you want is possible with the CFA735/835 hardware and a few helpers.

The firmware would have to be customized — perhaps a lot — but here are some tips for getting the job done.
