Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often about ordering, shipping, samples, custom displays, and support. If you do not find what you need, our support team is happy to help.
Do you have a minimum order quantity?
There is no minimum quantity. There is a minimum order value of $30 for online orders.
Above that, shipping is tiered: $30 to $99 ships at calculated carrier rates, $100 to $299 ships at a subsidised $15 flat rate, and orders over $300 ship free by ground.
Every order, single unit or a thousand, is packed in anti-static (ESD) materials and impact-resistant boxing.
Can I buy a single unit for a prototype?
Yes. There is no minimum quantity, so a single unit is a normal order.
If you are validating a design with an estimated annual usage of 100 units or more, contact support@crystalfontz.com directly. Evaluation samples can be arranged that bypass the standard webstore minimums.
How quickly can I get a working demo kit for evaluation?
Same day, if you order by 11am Pacific Monday to Friday.
There is no minimum quantity, only a $30 minimum order value, so a single kit is a normal order. If you are validating a design with an estimated annual usage of 100 units or more, contact support@crystalfontz.com and evaluation samples can be arranged that bypass the webstore minimum entirely.
Stock ships from Spokane Valley, Washington, not from an overseas warehouse, and every kit comes with demo code and a full datasheet.
How fast do orders ship?
Most orders placed Monday to Friday by 11am Pacific ship the same day. Later orders ship the next business day.
Shipping is via UPS for domestic and DHL for international, with USPS and FedEx also available. You can ship on your own carrier account; a $25 handling fee applies for carriers other than FedEx, DHL or UPS, including freight forwarders.
How long will a part stay available?
We make every effort to keep products available for as long as possible. When a product must be discontinued or significantly changed, we work to identify a suitable replacement and make the transition as smooth as we can.
Change notices are posted directly on the affected product pages, including the nature of the change, affected date ranges and recommended alternatives. You can sign up for product notifications on any part you rely on, so you hear about a change before it affects your design or production schedule.
For questions about a specific part’s status, contact support and we will share what we know about expected availability.
Are you a manufacturer or a distributor?
Both, depending on the product.
Crystalfontz America distributes display components and electronic modules and performs value-added services including firmware programming, minor product modifications and assembly.
We also design our own products. The Intelligent Module family, the EVE modules and the CFA050 Raspberry Pi carrier boards are Crystalfontz-designed, with our own firmware and PCB design.
We also offer custom hardware and software design services.
What compliance and export documentation can you provide?
Available documentation covers REACH, RoHS, Prop 65, and CMRT conflict-minerals declarations. PFAS data collection is in progress. A Certificate of Compliance is provided with every order, and our quality system is ISO 9001:2015 certified. CMRT requests go to compliance@crystalfontz.com.
On export: our products are subject to the U.S. Export Administration Regulations administered by the Bureau of Industry and Security (15 CFR 730 to 774). We do not ship to embargoed or sanctioned destinations, we screen all orders against the Entity List, Denied Persons List and SDN list, and international orders require an End Use/End User Certificate before fulfilment.
Customs fees and import duties on exports are the buyer’s responsibility. We mark customs forms with the applicable trade codes for our products and will not mark a package as a gift or falsify declared values.
What does the warranty cover and for how long?
What operating temperature ranges are available?
Two ranges matter and they are different. Storage range is what the module survives unpowered. Operating range is where it meets its optical specification.
The limits come from the liquid crystal itself. Below its lower limit the fluid becomes sluggish and the display smears or freezes; above the upper limit it goes isotropic and the image washes out entirely, recovering on cooling. Backlight efficiency and lifetime also fall at high temperature, and polarizers and adhesives set the outer bounds on storage.
Crystalfontz OLED modules are rated 0 °C to +70 °C as standard, with some parts rated to -40 °C. Expanded-temperature options are available across the range.
Note that operating a display outside its specified temperature range voids the warranty, so it is worth confirming the range against your enclosure’s worst case rather than its ambient.
Can you guarantee a display will stay available for the life of my program?
Not as a fixed number of years, and be skeptical of any supplier who quotes one. What Crystalfontz runs is a Product Longevity process: change notification when a part is modified, and a last-time-buy window when it is discontinued, so you get warning rather than a surprise. For a program that cannot tolerate any change at all, the Defined Part process locks a customer-specific part number with a single named approver, so nothing moves without that person signing off.
