Consider using this 2x16 character yellow OLED to replace your existing STN character display.

• 8-bit or 4-bit parallel interface
• WS0010 Controller (very similar to Hitachi HD44780)
• Operating temperature range from -40°C to 80°C.
• RoHS Compliant.

OLEDs emit light so they don't require a backlight like most traditional LCDs. They are also thinner and more energy efficient. When comparing an OLED to an LCD, you'll immediately notice the OLED has better readability due to its higher contrast and wider viewing angle. Since OLEDs don't need a backlight they require much less power and are perfect for low power applications.
